Illustration Assignment: Dune Bookcover final

I never did post the results of my Dune Book Cover.

Looking back over it, I'd like to go back and work on the figures a bit, resolve them a bit.

ebook covers: Sword

Assignment:
Starting with some general fantasy covers.

Swords in different positions- being swung, stabbed, unsheathed..

Play with color to display tone.

WIP:

Sword 1:

The color edition here will continue with an aged look that I think is starting to come along nicely so far in black in white.

Praying Concept 1:

Rough Concepts Sketches, inspired by Medieval: Total War.

- Back in roughly 2003 I had the opportunity to work on Medieval: Total War for Activision. Hidden away in the credits are these simply amazing sketches. I attempted to recreated them as best as I could as an exercise. Original concepts are wholly owned by Creative Assembly.

Some Reference / Inspiration:

Becky, let me know if there is anything in particular that catches your eye. I don't think anyone really reads this blog anymore, so it's largely safe. That said, still message me.

A few if these I'll grow concepts out of, or use in different places. For example, so far my praying sword man is a combination of four seperate images I used for reference.

Also.. I've noticed that a majority of the ebook covers you set me via email are straight up photos. I DO have an adventurous photo friend, and I might be able to see if we can some up with some interesting photos or future reference, but that is a separate area from illustration. And he'd likely deserve a cut as the photographer if we were to use him. Not that I'd mind. It WOULD be fast and easy to do. Just need props.

Do you have access to props?

Returning to Illustration

Anndddd it's time to pick up ye ole stylus and start up again.

Not that I was looking to make eBookcovers, but I have now apparently fallen into it. At current I'm busy working as a chef while looking for work in the CIT and Project Management industry where I got my degree in.

But as it so happens I know someone who knows someone who is my relative on my wife's side, who knows a LOT of people...  and that is how it's all going to get started.

So first step is to go back over my notes and set up Adobe as per ye'ole class instructions. Luckily I took relatively good notes so I don't feel too lost. I have to say, I'm pretty thankful for my professors, Burr, Huntsman and Abegglen. Otherwise I'd be lost in a storm of confusion.
